Why Use a UK-Based Chartered Linguist for Your Turkish Translation?

When a translation is going to the Home Office, a court, a university or a solicitor, the cheapest option is not always the safest one. Here is what you get when your Turkish translation is done by a UK-based Chartered Linguist — and why it matters if anything ever goes wrong.

A real, qualified translator in the UK — not a faceless service

I am Ali Yildirim, a Chartered Linguist based in Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK, translating between Turkish and English for over 20 years. Every certified translation is done, checked and signed by me personally. You can phone me on a UK number, email me, or message me on WhatsApp, and you will always speak to the person who actually did your translation.

With me you get:

  • A UK-based Chartered Linguist you can phone, email or WhatsApp, bound by CIOL and ITI codes of conduct
  • No subcontracting: every translation is done and signed by me personally
  • Free correction if a UK authority rejects my translation because of a translation issue
  • Signed paper copies posted by Royal Mail anywhere in the UK
  • Your documents deleted once the job is complete, unless you ask me to keep a copy
  • Same time zone as you: I work on UK time, so there’s no waiting overnight for an answer from another continent
  • Fast replies: I usually respond within an hour during working hours
  • Flexible working hours: Monday to Thursday 8am–8pm, Friday and Saturday 8am–5pm, so you can message me before or after your own working day. Messages sent on Sunday are answered on Monday morning

What my credentials mean for you

Online, anyone can call themselves a “certified translator”. In the UK, the credible test is membership of a professional body that checks qualifications and holds its members to a code of conduct. I hold:

  • Chartered Linguist (MCIL CL) — Chartered Institute of Linguists, membership no. 42759. Chartered status is the highest professional standard for linguists in the UK and must be renewed with ongoing professional development.
  • Qualified Member of the ITI (MITI) — Institute of Translation & Interpreting, membership no. 8695.
  • ISO 17100:2015 — the international standard for translation services, covering qualifications, process and quality checks.
  • Diploma in Translation — Distinction in Law, Merit in Technology.

You can check my membership directly with CIOL and ITI. That independent check is the point: you don’t have to take my word for it.

Accountability if something goes wrong

Because I am a member of two UK professional bodies, I am bound by their codes of professional conduct — on accuracy, confidentiality and honesty about what I can and cannot do. If you were ever unhappy with my work, you would have a UK-based route to raise it, not just an email address overseas.

Free correction guarantee: if a UK authority queries or rejects my translation because of a translation issue, I will correct and reissue it free of charge.

Translations UK authorities expect

UK Visas and Immigration and other UK bodies ask for a translation that confirms it is accurate, is dated, and gives the translator’s full name and contact details. Every certified translation I produce includes:

  • a signed statement of accuracy,
  • the date, my full name, credentials and membership numbers,
  • my UK contact details, so the receiving authority can verify the translation if they need to.

My translations are regularly used for the Home Office/UKVI, HM Passport Office, universities, courts and solicitors. See Turkish translation for UK visas and the Home Office for details.

Personal documents handled with care

Birth and marriage certificates, nüfus kayıt örneği, diplomas, court decisions and medical records contain sensitive personal data. I handle them confidentially under UK GDPR and my professional codes of conduct. I never pass your documents to subcontractors, and I delete them once the job is complete unless you ask me to keep a copy.

Need a signed paper copy? I can post it to you by Royal Mail anywhere in the UK.

Clear, fair pricing

Certified translation of a one-page document starts from £30, with a standard turnaround of 1–2 business days, in either direction (Turkish→English or English→Turkish). You’ll get a fixed price before any work starts — no surprises. See my prices.

You may find cheaper options online, often from services based outside the UK. Some are perfectly fine. But if your visa application, court case or job offer depends on the document, it’s worth knowing exactly who translated it, what qualifies them, and how to reach them.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a UK-based translator for a Home Office application?

Not necessarily — the Home Office’s main concern is that the translation is certified correctly and the translator can be contacted. A UK-based, professionally registered translator makes that verification simple, and gives you someone accountable in the UK if any questions come up. For a fuller explanation, see my guide: Certified vs Sworn, Notarised, Legalised and Apostilled.

What is a Chartered Linguist?

Chartered Linguist is a professional status awarded by the Chartered Institute of Linguists to qualified, experienced linguists who commit to continuing professional development and a code of conduct. It is the UK’s highest professional standard for translators.

Can I check your credentials?

Yes. My CIOL membership number is 42759 and my ITI membership number is 8695. Both organisations let you verify members.

How do I get a quote?

Send a clear photo or scan of every page via the contact page, email or WhatsApp, and tell me what the translation is for and when you need it. I’ll reply with a fixed price.

What are your working hours?

I work Monday to Thursday, 8am–8pm, and Friday and Saturday, 8am–5pm (UK time). Messages sent on Sunday are answered on Monday morning.

How quickly will you reply?

I usually reply within an hour during working hours, whether you get in touch by email, WhatsApp, phone or the contact form.

Are you in the same time zone as me?

If you are in the UK, yes. I am based in Portsmouth, Hampshire, and work on UK time, so there is no waiting overnight for an answer from another continent.

Do you translate documents for use in Turkey as well?

Yes. I translate English documents into Turkish too. See English to Turkish certified translations.
