Turkish Marriage Certificate Translation UK (Certified)
If you need your Turkish marriage certificate translated into English for a UK visa application, spouse visa, divorce proceedings, name change, or registry office use, I provide certified translations that meet the UK government’s format for official use. In Türkiye, proof of marriage usually comes as the aile cüzdanı (family record book, often called evlilik cüzdanı; the current multilingual version is the uluslararası aile cüzdanı), or as a marriage record extract from the civil register: the evlenme kayıt örneği or its multilingual version, Formül B. HM Passport Office accepts the family record book for a change of name, but for nationality purposes it accepts the Formül B.

Why a UK-based Chartered Linguist? Every certified translation is done and signed by me personally — no subcontracting — with free correction if a UK authority rejects it and signed copies posted anywhere in the UK. Find out why it matters.
Aile cüzdanı or Formül B: which document do you need?
Most couples married in Türkiye have the aile cüzdanı, the family record book handed over at the civil ceremony. It is the document most people send me. For a British passport, though, HM Passport Office treats the two Turkish marriage documents differently:
- Aile cüzdanı (family record book) — accepted by HM Passport Office for a change of name, but not for nationality purposes.
- Formül B (Uluslararası Evlenme Kayıt Örneği, the multilingual marriage record extract) — issued by the civil registry office (Nüfus Müdürlüğü) and accepted for all passport purposes, including nationality.
So if your application concerns nationality, you will normally need the Formül B rather than the family record book. Although the Formül B is printed in several languages, the UK is not a party to the convention behind it, so UK organisations still expect a certified English translation. I translate both documents — if you are not sure which one you need, send me what you have and I will tell you.

Frequently asked questions
1. Is your translation certified and suitable for submission to HM Passport Office and other UK organisations?
Yes — I provide certified translations accepted by HM Passport Office, the Home Office and UK institutions. For a fuller explanation, see my guide: Certified vs Sworn, Notarised, Legalised and Apostilled.
2. Which pages of the marriage certificate (Aile Cüzdanı) need to be translated?
- The cover and outer/inner data pages identifying the document
- The main marriage registration page (spouses’ personal details, ID numbers, place and date of marriage, and official stamps/signatures — usually up to the “Çeşitli Açıklamalar” or Miscellaneous Notes section)
- Any subsequent pages containing entries, such as children’s details if applicable (blank pages are omitted if no children are registered)
3. What’s the cost of a certified Turkish-English marriage certificate translation?
- Digital only translation with digital stamp and certificate of translation: £55
- Digital translation with digital stamp, plus hard copy with embossed stamp and wet signature on each page, and certificate of translation with wet signature: £70
- The standard rates apply to the first four pages of the booklet, up to and including Field 19, “Çeşitli Açıklamalar” (Miscellaneous Notes).
- Hard copies are sent by Royal Mail First Class 24 Hour Tracked and Signed For Delivery.
4. What’s the expected turnaround time?
Standard turnaround time is 1–2 business days for the digital copy, and 2 business days for digital plus hard copy.
5. Do you offer same-day delivery of certified translations?
Yes. Same-day delivery of the digital copy, plus posting of the hard copy, is available for an extra £20 — this includes postage via Royal Mail First Class 24 Hour Tracked and Signed For Delivery, sent the same day or the following morning.
6. Do you need photographs or scans of the relevant pages, or the original document?
Scanned pages or clear photographs of the original document are sufficient — you don’t need to send the physical booklet.
7. Will I receive a physical certified copy as well as a digital copy?
That depends on your request, usually determined by the requirements of the institution you’re submitting it to.
8. How will I receive the hard copies?
Hard copies are sent via Royal Mail First Class 24 Hour Tracked and Signed For Delivery.
9. What if my marriage certificate has handwritten entries or later notes?
Handwritten entries, stamps and later notes — such as those added in the “Çeşitli Açıklamalar” (Miscellaneous Notes) section — are translated in full. Anything illegible is marked as illegible rather than guessed. Entries within the first four pages are covered by the standard rate; if they continue beyond that, I will confirm the price before I start.
10. Does my Turkish marriage certificate need an apostille before it is translated?
Not usually for UK use. HM Passport Office, UK Visas and Immigration and most UK organisations need a certified English translation of your original document, not an apostille. Some bodies may ask for one, so it is worth checking with the organisation receiving it. If you do need one, the apostille is added to the Turkish document in Türkiye first, and I translate the apostille together with the certificate.
11. Why should I use a qualified translator for my certified translation?
In the UK, anyone can call themselves a certified translator. If the organisation receiving your document can’t verify who translated it, they may reject it — which can mean delays and paying twice. Choosing a translator who belongs to a recognised body such as the CIOL or ITI gives your translation credentials that anyone can check.
12. How can I check your credentials?
I’m a Chartered Linguist and member of the CIOL (no. 42759) and a qualified member of the ITI (no. 8695). You can look me up in both bodies’ public directories, and my membership details appear on every certificate of translation I issue.
