Certified Turkish Translation for UK Visa and Home Office Applications
Applying for a UK visa, settlement or British citizenship with Turkish documents? Every document that is not in English must come with a certified translation that meets the Home Office’s requirements — and a translation that misses one of them can hold up your application. I’m Ali Yildirim, a native Turkish Chartered Linguist, qualified member of the ITI and ISO 17100:2015 qualified translator with over 20 years’ experience. I translate, sign and certify every document myself, so you always know exactly who is responsible for your translation.
Certified translations start from £30, with a standard 1–2 business day turnaround. Send me your document for a fixed quote.

Why a UK-based Chartered Linguist? Every certified translation is done and signed by me personally — no subcontracting — with free correction if a UK authority rejects it and signed copies posted anywhere in the UK. Find out why it matters.
What the Home Office requires from a certified translation
Home Office guidance says that any supporting document not in English or Welsh must come with a full translation that can be independently verified. The translation must include confirmation from the translator that it is an accurate translation of the original document, the date of the translation, the translator’s full name and signature, and the translator’s contact details. For applications made inside the UK, it should also come from a professional translator and show their credentials. Every certified translation I provide includes all of these on a signed certificate of translation, together with my CIOL and ITI memberships, so the caseworker can check who I am.
Because the UK has no state-appointed sworn translators, a notarised or sworn translation is not normally needed for a Home Office application. You submit the translation alongside the Turkish original, so keep a clear copy of both.
Spouse and partner visas
For a spouse, civil partner or unmarried partner visa, the Turkish documents that most often need translating are the marriage certificate (the aile cüzdanı family record book, an evlenme kayıt örneği or a Formül B), a divorce decree (boşanma kararı) from any previous marriage, birth certificates of children, and Turkish bank statements, payslips or employment letters used to meet the financial requirement. See Turkish marriage certificate translation for which pages of the Aile Cüzdanı need translating and how they are priced, and Turkish translation for a UK spouse visa for the full document checklist.
Indefinite leave to remain (ILR)
When you apply for indefinite leave to remain, you show that your circumstances still meet the rules, so expect to translate any Turkish documents issued or changed since your last application: an updated marriage certificate or nüfus kayıt örneği (civil registry extract), birth certificates for children born since then, and documents showing a change of name. If a document has been reissued, the new version needs its own translation.
British citizenship
For naturalisation or registration as a British citizen, Turkish documents are usually needed to confirm identity, name changes or family relationships — for example a birth certificate or tam vukuatlı nüfus kayıt örneği (full civil registry extract), a marriage certificate or a divorce decree. Registering a child as a British citizen typically involves the child’s birth certificate and documents for the parents. See Turkish birth certificate translation.
British passports (HM Passport Office)
A British passport application — for a child born in Türkiye, for example, or after a change of name through marriage — can call for a certified translation of a Turkish birth certificate or marriage certificate. For nationality purposes, HM Passport Office asks for the multilingual marriage extract (Formül B) rather than the aile cüzdanı. If HM Passport Office asks you to send documents by post, choose the hard copy, with an embossed stamp and wet signature on each page and a signed paper certificate of translation, sent by Royal Mail First Class 24 Hour Tracked and Signed For Delivery.
Student and Skilled Worker visas
For Student and Skilled Worker visas, the documents are usually academic: diplomas, degree certificates and transcripts, and sometimes employment or reference letters. If you also need a UK ENIC statement of comparability, the same certified translation can usually be used for both. See Turkish diploma and degree certificate translation. Some health, education and social care roles also need a criminal record certificate from Türkiye — see Turkish criminal record certificate translation.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a certified translation for my UK visa application?
Yes, for every supporting document that is not in English or Welsh. Home Office guidance asks for a full translation that can be independently verified, with the translator’s confirmation that it is accurate, the date, the translator’s full name and signature, and their contact details. A document submitted without a translation like this may not be taken into account.
Will the Home Office accept your certified translations?
My certified translations are prepared to meet the requirements of UK bodies such as the Home Office, UKVI, HM Passport Office, UK ENIC, universities and courts, and include everything they typically ask for. Requirements can change and vary by application, so it is always worth checking the current guidance for your specific application.
Does my translation need to be notarised or sworn?
Not for a normal Home Office application. The UK has no state-appointed sworn translators, and the Home Office relies on the translator’s signed certificate and credentials. Notarisation is only needed if the organisation you are applying to specifically asks for it. Read more about certified vs sworn, notarised and apostilled translations.
Can I translate my documents myself, or ask a friend?
It is not advisable. The translation has to be independently verifiable and, for applications made in the UK, certified by a professional translator. A translation made by you or a family member is likely to be rejected, which can delay your application.
Do I need a digital copy or a hard copy?
Most visa applications are made online, and you upload scans of your documents, so a digital certified translation — a PDF with my digital stamp and a signed certificate of translation — is normally enough. If your application asks you to post documents or bring paper copies to an appointment, choose the hard copy, with an embossed stamp and wet signature on each page, for an additional £15 per order.
How much does a certified Turkish translation cost?
Certified translations start from £30 per one page document (applies to digitally delivered translations of short, one page documents such as diplomas, degree certificates or birth certificates). Longer documents are priced at £0.10 per word. A posted hard copy with a physical stamp and wet signature is an additional £15 per order.
How long does it take?
The standard turnaround for certified one-page documents is 1–2 business days. If you have an appointment or a deadline coming up, tell me the date when you ask for a quote and I will confirm whether it can be met.
Do you need my original document?
No. A clear scan or photograph is normally enough. If the organisation you are applying to needs to see the original, that is something you provide to them directly; I will flag it at the quote stage if it applies.
Why should I use a qualified translator for my certified translation?
In the UK, anyone can call themselves a certified translator. If the organisation receiving your document can’t verify who translated it, they may reject it — which can mean delays and paying twice. Choosing a translator who belongs to a recognised body such as the CIOL or ITI gives your translation credentials that anyone can check.
How can I check your credentials?
I’m a Chartered Linguist and member of the CIOL (no. 42759) and a qualified member of the ITI (no. 8695). You can look me up in both bodies’ public directories, and my membership details appear on every certificate of translation I issue.
